Producer Aanand L Rai not too happy with rushes shot in Punjab; a new director may take over.

Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurrana director Sameer Sharma had been patiently writing and working on his second project for the last four years, telling himself that ups and downs are a part and parcel of the long, complicated process of filmmaking.

Now Mirror has learnt that new turn of events has hit him harder than expected.

After his directorial debut in 2012, the writerdirector was in the news for over two years for his much-talked about project, Jugalbandi, which was to be produced under Salman Khan’s banner with Saif Ali Khan.

Talks were on with Parineeti Chopra and Jacqueline Fernandez before the film was put on hold.

Then, last year, Sameer was signed by the Tanu Weds Manu filmmaker Aanand L Rai to direct a romcom. Titled Manmarziyan, the film which had Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar reuniting after Dum Laga Ke Haisha, and Vicky Kaushal, kicked off with a five-day schedule in Shimla after which they moved to Punjab. The unit shot up North for over a month and it looked like they were having a blast. But when Aanand L Rai saw the rushes he was far from pleased.

According to a source close to the development, he immediately called off the next schedule and asked that the film be put on hold. Last heard, Rai was going ahead with the project and in all likehood will rope in a new director.

“We are on a break,” Sameer informed Mirror, having just wrapped up a meeting with his producer on Monday evening.

“Every film goes through teething problems in its initial stages and everybody has a lot to speculate about. At the end of the day it’s only the producer and the director who know what the real status quo is. We are making some corrections and taking some time off. But it’s an internal matter and not to be discussed publicly. I’m sure it will only better the final product,” he said.

Aanand L Rai chose not to comment on the subject.
