Madhuvanti Arun makes her Tamil film debut
Madhuvanti Arun, a popular theatre personality and daughter of veteran actor Y Gee Mahendra, is all set to make her debut in Kollywood. The actress will be seen playing a cop in the Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Dharmadurai, which is directed by Seenuramasamy. Talking about how she bagged the role, Madhuvanti says, “Seenu sir had seen my performance in my Tamil play Perumale, and liked my performance. He then came to me, and offered me the role, saying that he could not visualise anyone else who could pull off the role, better. So I agreed. This is my first film, and my first cop role, so it is mighty exciting.”
The experience of working with the crew, Madhuvanti says, was absolutely wonderful. “Everyone has huge respect for my dad, so maybe as an extension of that, the whole unit took really good care of me. Working with Seenu sir was a brilliant experience. He believes in shooting full sequences, rather than just shots, so it was convenient for me. My portion is in the flashback portions of the film and although it is a short sequence, my character is a turning point in the life of the hero,” she adds.
In addition to Dharmadurai, Madhuvanti will be seen in director Ragava’s (of Manjapai fame) next untitled film, which has Arya in the lead. Although she cannot reveal much about her character yet, the actress says, “This film is doubly special to me, because this is the first time that I am acting with my father in films. So, there is a first in my second film, too.”
